Volunteer accountant and bookkeeper – role description
The Moldova Project is recruiting an accountant / bookkeeper to work with the Treasurer of our small but ambitious charity. The Moldova Project is a predominantly volunteer led organisation which supports families in Europe's poorest country to become self-sufficient and to live happier, healthier and safer lives.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with relevant skills and experience to join our team and help support its growth. The Moldova Project has transformed the lives of more than 100 families living in extreme poverty since it was founded in 2008, and our impact continues to grow. Now in our eleventh year we are seeking a volunteer who can help support the continuation and expansion of our work. Our 2018 turnover was £76,000.
We are recruiting a volunteer with expertise in accountancy and bookkeeping to work with the Treasurer to ensure the trustees and broader organisation have an accurate picture of the organisation's finances.
✓ Relevant experience in accountancy and bookkeeping
✓ Experience of preparing management accounts
✓ High level of personal integrity and commitment
✓ Excellent understanding of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
✓ Adaptable and flexible approach
✓ Good written and spoken communication skills
✓ Excellent attention to detail
✓Experience of charity finance and Charity Commission requirements
✓ Experience or interest in international development
✓Interest in Eastern Europe
✓Holds accountancy qualification and a member of an accountancy professional body
Requirements of the Role
Work with the treasurer to:
-Prepare the annual accounts in a timely fashion, and ensure they represent a fair and accurate picture of the charity's finances
- Liaise with the auditor and help to prepare the submission of the annual financial statements to the charities' commission
- Prepare quarterly management accounts for the Board meetings
Additional roles available if of interest to the holder of the role:
- Help to prepare the cash flow forecasts, budgets and finance commentary for discussion at Board meetings
- Help to prepare the Annual Report
- Submit gift aid claims
- Become involved more broadly in the organisation's finance and governance function including financial analysis, strategic financial planning, and process and systems improvements
The Board are predominantly based in London, however this role will be home based and can be carried out remotely.
The time commitment is flexible. The main reporting cycle is quarterly to fit with Board meetings and the financial year end in December, when the bulk of time is required.
