The Royal Institution (Ri) is seeking new members for its non-executive Finance Committee.
The Royal Institution (Ri) is an independent charity with a mission to create opportunities for everyone to discover, discuss and critically examine science and the way in which it shapes the world around us. We provide science education, public engagement, and heritage activities for people of all ages and backgrounds across the UK and around the world. These activities include the world-famous CHRISTMAS LECTURES; a successful YouTube channel with over 1 million subscribers, and a range of educational and heritage programmes. For more information on the work of the Ri please visit our website www.rigb.org.

The Role
Due to retirements, the Ri Finance Committee is now seeking new members. This Committee provides guidance and oversight, including proactive challenge, of all aspects of financial strategy, planning, and activity at the Ri. Consequently, the Ri seeks to fill these posts with candidates who have relevant financial expertise, skills, knowledge, and experience. The posts are not remunerated, and you must be able to commit to attend at least 4-5 meetings in London, or on-line if required, each year.

Skills Required
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate their skills in the following ways:

- Credibility: Support the Ri executive team in engaging with funders, bankers, corporate and institutional partnerships, and other key stakeholders. Ideal candidates will demonstrate the acumen and competency to work as part of a team to steer the Ri through the next period of post-pandemic financial challenge.

- Finance, accounting, and investment: Skills and experience in finance and investment management, particularly within a charity or endowment funded organisation. Candidates should be prepared to advise and support the Ri in the most effective management of its operations, investments, and funds.
The Ri is focused on being truly representative, demonstrating diversity with regard to gender identity, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability, and geography. While previous board or finance committee level experience is helpful, we welcome applicants with the right level of skills and expertise who have not yet had the opportunity to get this experience.

Committee membership is for 12 months in the first instance, with the prospect of renewal. Closing date: 24 October 2021.

Those wishing to apply should send a 2-page CV with a supporting letter which highlights just how their professional and life experience and skillset meet with our needs. Please send to the Chair of the Nominations Committee, Professor Angela Seddon, at governance@ri.ac.uk
