About the role
Parentkind is a charity (turnover is c.£1.5m) that represents the voice of parents, guardians, carers and over 13,000 Parent Teacher Associations across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Parentkind exists to support more parents to engage in more schools in more ways to benefit as many children as possible. We believe that when parents and carers are involved in their children’s education, it has the greatest impact in not just results, but in their children’s self-esteem, confidence and enthusiasm for learning.
We changed our name from PTA UK to Parentkind to reflect and embrace the full range of parents and carers and all the different ways we support people in having a say in children’s education. We do this by championing the role of parents in their child’s education through our research and by influencing senior education policy makers and legislators such as MPs and government officials.
As we embark on our new five-year strategy this year, we seek Trustees who can embrace change, mirror our ambitions, drive innovation, provide strategic insight and possess the desire to impact the education sector. We believe the voice of parents and carers is too often excluded and silenced and therefore we seek three people who will add real value to our Board, organisation and the sector as a whole.
Who we're looking for
We are looking for people with the skills and experience in frontline education, external affairs, organisational development and finance. It is vital for us that our Board represents the people that we support and our society as a whole and we are keen to ensure that we continue to have a diverse Board. You will support us as we are on the cusp of our new strategy. We seek to gain more government engagement and look to engage with those who bring sector knowledge and lived and breathed experience in education at leadership level. This will help us ensure we are developing a strong strategy, lobbying the government to change policies for the better and supporting parents and carers who want a voice in their children’s education.
The Board meets five times a year in usually in Central London plus a yearly strategy away day in Tonbridge. Sub-Committee meetings including the Audit and Finance Committee and the Nominations, Governance and Employment Committee meet at least twice annually. Trustees are expected to join at least one committee. The term of office for all three roles is three years. The time commitment for a Trustee is 12 days per year.
By joining Parentkind’s board you can help us by providing strategic vision, strategy development, innovation, scrutiny and challenge. This is an opportunity to join an exciting organisation operating in a fascinating space in the charity sector with ambitious growth plans. Candidates will have a keen interest and passion to influence and drive our strategy to support, engage and champion parents in education.
If you are excited by the opportunity to help amplify the voice of parents, we would love to hear from you.
