Driven by our dedication to save, protect and heal
PDSA is the UK’s leading veterinary charity and at our heart we have a shared vision to achieve a lifetime of wellbeing for every pet. Since 1917, PDSA has been a lifeline for pets and their owners, providing free and low-cost veterinary treatments for sick and injured animals across the UK, as well as promoting responsible pet ownership.
Since our work began we have provided a staggering 100 million free treatments to more than 20 million pets. With 48 PDSA Pet Hospitals providing care for more than 470,000 pets annually there is no other charity comparable to PDSA in terms of the scale and impact we have on animal welfare.
Together we’re on a mission to improve the life of every pet by preventing illness, suffering and the unnecessary death of pets; educating people about the welfare needs and value of pets and treating sick and injured pets needing our help in communities across the UK.
The Board of Trustees sit on Council, the equivalent of a non-executive management board, and are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of PDSA. This includes financial oversight and ensuring the organisation delivers against its purpose.
The time commitment is 12 to 15 days a year, comprising quarterly Council meetings, strategy workshops and specialist committees. Most meetings are held in London; travel and out of pocket expenses are reimbursed, so where you live isn’t an issue.
As well as a demonstrable personal empathy with the mission, aims and values of PDSA, you will also have evidence of developing strategies, working effectively as a member of a team, and scrutinizing and analysing complex information. You will of course have good, independent judgement. The organisation is specifically looking for people with experience in business or IT/digital transformation.
PDSA recognises the benefits of ensuring that its board is diverse and is keen to attract younger candidates, people who are from the north of England or Scotland, or from the BAME community.
