About the organisation
Ability operates across Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire providing day care, respite, supported living and residential services. Ability provides a range of services for adults with learning disabilities, autism, behaviours that challenge, mental health conditions and complex health needs.
We also manage an independent living service. Here we offer support to individuals wishing to lead a more independent lifestyle with the appropriate support to engage in the local community and develop independent skills.
About the role
Ability has been presented with considerable opportunities to develop and seeks to strengthen its Board of Trustees to ensure a wide a range of skills and knowledge as possible, so that the correct decisions are made for future development and to ensure the organisation achieves its aspirations
We are looking to recruit Trustees with the following skills in particular:
- Financial and/or accountancy skills
- Business development skills
- Health and Social Care experience
- Local or Central Government experience
- Equality and Diversity (learning disability)
- Health & Safety knowledge
We are looking to have Trustees with as broad a skill base as possible, so should you have skills that are not listed, we would very much like to hear from you.

You will be joining a Charity that is positive and forward looking, which enjoys looking at how to do things differently with a focus on the future, allowing volunteers to utilise their knowledge, skills and commitment towards embracing the challenges posed in the sector from a very positive standpoint.
2 hour board meetings, every 6 weeks and at a minimum, one attendance every six months
We are working towards an enabled and effective board that is not restricted to Trustees being able to attend face-to-face as we will be incorporating technology to overcome this.

The Charity is developing as part of a consortium to deliver services nationally and Trustees who are interested are welcome from across England and Wales.
