Inspired by three great 18th century activists – Thomas Coram, William Hogarth and George Frideric Handel – the Foundling Museum is a force for change. We believe in creative action that brings past and present together, to stimulate imaginations and enrich young lives. We celebrate the work of artists and inspire people to take positive action that transforms lives and creates a lasting impact.
The Museum is responsible for the care and maintenance of two collections – the Foundling Hospital Collection and the Foundling Museum Collection, which includes the Gerald Coke Handel Collection. Alongside these are works by contemporary artists, including our Foundling Fellows, who have been inspired by our story to work with us on projects to improve the lives of children and young people today. Our exhibitions, commissions and creative projects generate new understandings of art and social history and tackle social issues to highlight the continuing relevance of our historic story. The museum’s intimate scale, remarkable story and ‘inch-wide, mile-deep’ philosophy, enables it to develop long-term creative relationships that have a real impact on disadvantaged young lives.
The Foundling Museum is governed by an independent board of trustees who bring with them expertise in a range of fields. We are now looking to appoint two new Trustees who bring expertise in the following areas:
- We are looking for a financially qualified Trustee who can support the Museum with oversight of our financial and commercial strategy, including advising the Museum Board and leadership team as they continue to build the ongoing long term financial stability and sustainability of the Museum. Formal accounting qualifications are essential, as is prior knowledge and experience of charity governance. You will work closely with our Director Caro Howell and our Director of Finance and Operations, Nigel Cudlipp and chair our Finance and Audit Committee.
- We are also looking for a Trustee who will provide thought leadership on the artistic and commercial role digital plays in the Museum, helping us to think about our future digital strategy and advise on decisions and options for investment.
Trustees are appointed for an initial term of three years, renewable, and we anticipate the time commitment for these roles to be less than two days per month.
