Job Description

Yorkshire MESMAC, one of the oldest and largest sexual health organisations in the country, are seeking a Trustee to join their board.

Yorkshire MESMAC offer services to various communities across Yorkshire, including men who have sex with men, African and other BAME communities, people misusing drugs, sex workers and LGBT+ young people and adults.

The overall governance of Yorkshire MESMAC rests with the Board of Trustees. Trustees ensure their charity has a clear strategy, and that its work and goals are in line with its vision. They safeguard the charity’s assets – both physical assets, including property, and intangible ones, such as its reputation. They make sure these are used well and that the charity is run sustainably.

We are fully committed to increasing the diversity of our board. To this end we want to recruit people with different skills, life experiences and from different backgrounds. We would especially welcome applications from people from a variety of ethnic minority backgrounds, and younger people, who are currently under-represented on our board.

Having a more diverse board will help us to understand better the needs of the communities we serve.

Each trustee brings their own skills, experiences and qualities to the board. They add to the collective knowledge and experience by providing:

  • Commitment to the aims, values and mission of the organisation.
  • Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as trustees, and to act in the best interests of the organisation.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement, and work effectively as a board member.
  • Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion

The board meets 4 times a year in Leeds. It is expected that Trustees sit on one the 3 subgroups, where appropriate.

If you are interested in applying for the role, please download and complete the expression of interest form from the Reach Volunteering site. Please email your completed form to the Trusteeworks Team.
