Do you want to help shape young people’s lives? AYA are looking to appoint enthusiastic, committed and motivated individuals with a diverse range of skills and backgrounds to join us in a small, exciting & local charity.
Reach Volunteering are working with AYA in the recrutiment of new trustees. Aylesbury Youth Action is a Youth Volunteering Charity, specialising in providing opportunities for young people to take action in the community to meet local need.
About the organisation
Aylesbury Youth Action is a charity based in Aylesbury Town, located at the Queens Park Arts Centre. The Trustees and Staff work together to provide volunteering opportunities for young people, between the ages of 14 to 24 years, to go out into the community and engage in social action based projects and activities. We partner with other community organisations and support young people to design and deliver activities at these community locations; such as running activities for young children or engaging with older people with dementia, undertaking conservation tasks or helping out with local events. The young people gain a number of important skills through their volunteering activities, to help their personal development and prepare them for the transition from school to the next chapter of their lives.
About the role
We are looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals from the local community to join our friendly team of Trustees. The role of an AYA Trustee is to support and guide the direction of the charity, sharing your particular skill base and insight, together with getting involved with some operational aspects. The key responsibilities are to give firm strategic direction, setting overall policies, ensuring effective administration and financial stability. The Trustee team meet together every two months to discuss relevant strategic development and one or two additional meetings and events per year to concentrate on specific key areas. In addition, Trustees may be expected to be available for two or three hours each month in relation to specific projects or areas of expertise.
We are looking for individuals who have a passion and commitment to shaping young peoples lives through youth volunteering. We welcome applicants with a range of skills and backgrounds to develop and progress the charity forwards.
A potential trustee would need to be adaptable and happy to work within a team environment, with the flexibility of getting involved during the evenings as and when required.
We would greatly appreciate applicants with a proactive and friendly nature, with a willingness to learn new skills, as much as to bring existing expertise to the team.
We are looking to supplement our current skills base with those from a community, youth related sector, financial, business development or IT background, however these areas are not exhaustive.
As long as you have an enthusiasm for providing opportunities for young people to develop their life and employability skills through youth social action, we would be delighted to hear from you.
What difference will you make?
AYA Trustees will have the opportunity to shape young peoples lives at an important stage in their lives. Youth volunteering enables young people to develop their interpersonal skills and to develop skills which will carry them forwards into the next chapter of their life journey. There are many issues that young people face today, such as social exclusion, mental health, pressures in education and family related aspects. Volunteering can create a supportive environment for young people to learn new skills and to try out activities which they may not have the opportunity to do so elsewhere. As a Trustee you will be able to share your knowledge and experience to invest in future generations and get involved with supporting your local community.
What's in it for the Trustee?
As an AYA Trustee you will be able to meet new people and challenge yourself, whilst making a difference in your local community. You can have the opportunity to learn new skills and utilise the experience you have already gained, in a friendly social environment, boosting confidence and enjoyment.
How to apply: Please send your CV and supporting statement via Reach Volunteering. AYA is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all backgrounds. We regret that the office is currently not wheel-chair accessible, but meetings will be held in accessible rooms.
