Job Description

Feltham Community Chaplaincy Trust is seeking two new Trustees to join their board, ideally with a background of working in grassroots, youth focused organisations.

Feltham Community Chaplaincy is a faith based mentoring organisation which offer support to young men, aged 15- 25 years, leaving prison and former offenders who are or have been in custody at HM Young Offenders’ Institution (HMYOI), Feltham whether they have a faith or none, or where resources permit, offenders referred to the Trust from elsewhere. Our aim is to help resettle them back into the community and ultimately to reduce re-offending. Mentors assist young men to find suitable accommodation, address education and training needs, manage their finances and build (or re-build) pro-social relationships. Often the boys are able to gain a sense of purpose through the support and encouragement provided by links with a particular faith community. We promote opportunities for personal development and help re-build confidence and self-esteem.

Role Summary

  • To ensure the charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit.
  • To comply with the charity’s governing document and the law.
  • To act in the charity’s best interests and manage the charity’s resources responsibly.
  • To ensure the charity is accountable.
  • To develop and promote best practice in terms of governance.
  • To safeguard and promote the vales and mission of the charity.
  • To determine the overall direction and development of the charity through clear strategic planning and business planning.
  • To uphold the fiduciary duty invested in the position, undertaking such duties in a way that adds to public confidence and trust in the charity.
  • To maintain sound financial management of the charity’s resources, ensuring expenditure is in line with the organisation’s objects, that investment activities meet accepted standards, that effective internal controls and risk management procedures are in place.
  • To ensure that a fully effective and appropriate system is in place for the recruitment, appointment and monitoring of the work and activities of the Chief Executive and where applicable other members of the senior management team.
  • To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity and its resources, striving for best practice in good governance.

  • A background of working in grassroots, youth-focused organisations is desirable.
  • Experience of working with the client group the organisation supports is desirable.

Time Commitment

The board meets quarterly. The location can vary but it is always London based - currently Westminster and Lambeth.
