Job Description

Sing Inside is excited to invite applications for a trustee with financial experience to its board. This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, young charity in the criminal justice sphere run by a committed team of volunteers, and drive innovation and change within the organisation as it grows and develops.

Sing Inside provides group singing workshops in prisons across England and Wales to dismantle social barriers and encourage a greater sense of self-worth. We believe that group singing has unique power to build trust, understanding and social skills, and that meaningful creative opportunities are a key element of breaking the cycle of reoffending. Through our day-long workshops and multi-day intensive courses, we offer learning opportunities that change outlooks, increase confidence and help people to see themselves differently.

What we are looking for

The successful applicant to this role will oversee the financial matters of the charity in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing document and legal requirements, and report to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation. They will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place, and are appropriate for the charity.

Applicants do not need to be a qualified accountant. They do need to be numerate and must have had previous experience in managing a small account including preparation of final accounts at year end.

Sing Inside is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion across our teams. We actively encourage applications from those with lived experience of the criminal justice system. We would also particularly welcome applications from those from BAME backgrounds, those from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and those with a disability/impairment. It is not necessary to have a university degree or any particular professional background. Whatever path you have taken to end up where you are, if you have the skills, we are interested.
