Just as the young people we work with need brilliant people to work alongside them on the frontline, YMCA Doncaster needs brilliant trustees to sit behind the scenes.
Our trustees have a range of duties that are all about making sure that everything is as it should be, that our history is cherished and our future is bright. They are people who are able to analyse performance, embrace opportunities and ask the difficult questions that help to turn big dreams into reality.
Risk, finance, quality, strategy and policy feature heavily in our Board’s work – but that’s always underpinned by doing what is right for young people in Doncaster, even when the right thing to do is difficult to fathom.
We meet about six times a year on Thursday evenings at 7pm, usually at the YMCA (although we’ve zoomed our way through the pandemic, and that’s continuing for now).
Aside from being over 18, there’s no age barrier. We are commited to nurturing people who are new to trusteeship as well as welcoming those who have similar experiences elsewhere.
We are keen to include people with experiences in the private or voluntary sectors.
Governance / strategic knowledge of premises management, housing regulation and development, fundraising (particularly grants and individual giving), retail and finance would be of particular interest.
Our current turnover is around £650,000 and we have 20 paid staff. We would welcome a trustee who understands the unique challenges of running – and growing – a business of a similar size.
We offer reasonable travel expenses where needed, opportunities to connect with people in similar trusteeships in YMCAs across the world, and a chance to use your wisdom and experience in shaping services that make a real difference to young lives in Doncaster.
