Chailey Heritage Foundation has been changing the lives of young people with disabilities since 1903. Today, we are one of the UK’s leading centres for children/young people with complex neurodisabilities and are looking for a new Trustee with finance experience.
What will you be doing?
Chailey Heritage Foundation is a Company limited by Guarantee and therefore our Trustees are also company directors. Following a recent retirement from our Board, we are now looking to appoint a new Trustee with experience in finance at a senior level; any experience in investment management would be helpful.
We are seeking people to join our Board who are able to commit the time and energy to help our Charity pursue its next phase of development. We are particularly interested in strong team players.
The Charity has a highly experienced and engaged Trustee Board and you will play a vital role in governance and shaping the strategic direction of the Charity. The Board meets in East Sussex four times a year (usually February, April, July and December) plus one strategic planning day. We would also ask you to join our Trustees' Finance Committee, which meets five times a year. The Charity has an experienced Finance Director who reports directly to the Chief Executive and to the Trustees' Finance Committee.
Our Boards benefit from people with a diverse blend of skills, perspectives and life experiences. In appointing our new Trustees, we will be taking into account personal profile, including individual protected characteristics, skills and experiences.
As part of our commitment to transparency, we have a formal application process for all Trustee appointments. An enhanced DBS check will also be required. This is a voluntary position but reasonable out-of-pocket travel expenses will be reimbursed.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a new Trustee to join the Trustees' Finance Committee, which is a sub committee of the main Board, and has responsibility for:
- Annual budget setting and 3 year forward planning for the charity.
- Overseeing and presentation of the Annual Report & Accounts to the Board.
- Monitoring the Charity's financial performance and cash flow
- Financial risks
- The Charity's assets and reserves
- Approval of financial policies and procedures
- Procurement and oversight of financial services (audit, investment management and banking)
- Oversight of insurances
We are looking for someone who has extensive financial management experience and a good understanding of financial strategy. Any experience of investment management would be helpful. The total income for the charity is £13.6m. We are not expecting you to have been involved with a charity before but we would like you to bring all your expertise and experience.
We are a charity not a business but we apply business principles and we are looking for someone to bring their expertise and experience from the wider business world to our charity.
What difference will you make?
Our charity, founded in 1903, has a long history of helping young people with disabilities. It is really important that our charity is sustainable, strong and can thrive in a challenging economic climate and changing market place for our services. Strong financial management is essential for us to continue to deliver high quality, value-for-money services to our vulnerable beneficiaries and we rely on our Trustees to bring all their expertise to advise the Board. All our Trustees are 'ambassadors' and we expect them to represent the charity and spread the word about the work we do for young people with complex disabilities.
What's in it for the volunteer?
Our charity has a big impact on our very vulnerable beneficiaries and becoming a Trustee is an opportunity to use your financial acumen to help advise the Board to ensure the sustainability of the charity. Our Trustees are friendly, committed, active and professional and bring their own expertise. They are all valued members of the Board.
How to apply
Applications must be made via Reach in the first instance. Please provide your CV, along with a covering letter stating why you wish to work for the organisation, how your skills would add value to the board and any other relevant information.
