Job Description

Being a Crossroads Care Trustee means being part of a forward-thinking and strategically-minded group of individuals who seek collectively to address the needs and aspirations of carers and people with care needs.


Role summary

The Board of Trustees is keen to tap into the wealth of experience people who have worked in the private sector have, including understanding and addressing challenges and obstacles, and being able to respond to local and national trends. The candidate may have experience of running their own business or working in a company. 


Person description

We believe that the challenges of working in the private sector and the solutions found will enhance the way we work as an organisation and improve our resilience as we face the future with all the inherent difficulties that social care faces.  It would be helpful if the candidate has knowledge of the role of a Carer (those who are family/friends) frequently providing substantial levels of care on a daily basis to a family member, neighbour or friend who has significant levels of disability. The cared for may have dementia, physical or learning disability, mental health issues and can be of any age. We provide services across the continuum of need - support NHS nurses discharge children home with complex health needs right through to end of life care for the very elderly or sick.  

Our Trustees believe in the need to support carers and define our goals for the organisation to help these individuals.

We would like the Trustee to have the following experience:

  • Experience of working in the private sector at a management level.
  • Able to demonstrate critical appraisal skills.
  • Experience of developing a business to meet targets and organisational objectives.
  • Experience in problem solving and planning to resolve organisational challenges.
  • Able to apply professional skills to the challenges Crossroad and all of social care will face both currently and into the future.
  • Ability to contribute to the strategic planning and objectives of Crossroads.
  • Understanding of risk management.
  • Working in a team, being a self motivator and willing to share and air views and knowledge.


What's in it for the volunteer?

The Board is made up of a diverse range of individuals; six at present.  We are friendly and highly motivated to ensure Oxfordshire Crossroads is a successful organisation as through its successes we are assured that local residents receive respite and have confidence in us. This is a significant benefit for our members. 


Time commitment

Board meetings are 6-8 weeks for 1 1/2 hrs at the Oxford office and an annual Away day. Project work will be dependent on Trustees availability

Trustees are expected to attend our Board meetings, usually every 6-8 weeks  for 1 1/2 hrs at the Oxford office, and our annual away day and to contribute to our discussions on the challenges and successes of Oxfordshire Crossroads. Project work will be dependent on Trustees availability.


A few more details

New trustees will be expected to attend a training and orientation session.

Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
