Citizens Advice Peterborough [CAP] is an independent charity and a member of national Citizens Advice, a network of 360 individual federated charities operating under the Citizens Advice brand; CAP has fully adopted the aims, principles and values of that organisation. These are:
- To provide the advice people need for the problems they have
- To improve the policies and practices that affect people’s lives
- The service is free, independent, confidential and impartial to everyone on his or her rights and responsibilities. It values diversity, promotes equality and fairness and challenges discrimination.
- We focus on clients, achieve results and continuously look to improve by valuing each other and working together.
We are seeking a new trustee to take on the role of Treasurer for our local advice service. The person we are seeking will become a pro-active member of our board of trustees and a director of the company.
The role of Treasurer with CAP is to work in close co-operation with, and provide support and advice to our finance officer and wider management team. The successful candidate will guide and advise the board of trustees on all matters relating to the financial administration of CAP. This will include the approval of budgets, accounts and financial statements, within a relevant financial policy framework
The Treasurer will undertake such specific tasks as chairing our Finance and General Purpose subcommittee meetings, and provide an oversight of our monthly management accounts (prepared by the Finance Lead) and of our annual accounts, which are independently audited.
The person we are seeking is likely to have previous experience of the finance function in a commercial or third sector organisation. Knowledge and experience in community and/or advice issues would be an advantage, however is not essential.
CAP trustees are all volunteers, however we are able to reimburse reasonable out of pocket expenses.
CAP has been a leading provider of quality accredited advice services in Peterborough for more than 20 years and we are acknowledged both locally and nationally, as experts in our field. All of the services we provide are developed in response to clearly identified local needs and we take very seriously the requirement to listen and respond to, the developing needs of our community and those who access our services.
The Board consists of a committed, experienced and skilled team of trustees who share a clear vision for the future. The Board and its sub-committees are hardworking and operate within a clear understanding of the different roles of the executive staff and trustees. The Board look to ensure that it provides appropriate leadership and support for the Chief Executive and senior staff whilst properly exercising its governance responsibilities.
Given the prevailing economic climate together with major changes in benefits and social welfare arrangements, all of which impact the lives of the vulnerable and those most in need. We look to develop collaboration and partnership working with other voluntary and community sector organisations in order to make our service stronger, more accessible, and more resilient.
