    Mansfield Citizens Advice

Mansfield Citizens Advice is looking to appoint a Treasurer to its Board.  You will maintain the overview of the Charity's affairs, provide strategic planning and guidance to help ensure our financial viability, and support the requirements underpinning proper financial governance and procedures.

As Treasurer, you will need to have financial qualifications and experience finances, fundraising, financial consequences and pension schemes but not necessarily in the charity sector. You need to be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own, be able to exercise good independent judgment and if necessary to make difficult recommendations.  If you do not have direct experience of Citizens Advice, you will need to be willing to learn about and follow our aims, principles and policies.

Your role responsibilities include;

  • attend 4 meetings per year in addition to leading on any Finance Committee meetings
  • explain, guide and advise the board on the key assumptions and financial implications of budgets, operational and strategic plans
  • ensure that the organisation has an appropriate reserves policy and a realistic budget that meets the services’ needs
  • present accounts in compliance with SORP to the AGM in an accessible way for volunteers and staff
  • ensure accounts are submitted by the deadline to the Charity Commission and arrange an independent audit
  • monitor income and expenditure position and present reports quarterly to board members
  • work with Citizens Advice staff, such as the Chief Officer or Finance Manager to give information and advice on financial matters
  • take an active discussion during board meetings and work with other trustees to:
  • set policy and strategy direction, set targets and evaluate the performance of MCA
  • ensure that all the finances and supporting financial control systems are in order including that full financial records are kept for all transactions, money is only spent for the purpose given, and proper financial controls are in place to safeguard resources
  • ensure MCA operates within its means and objectives, and there are clear lines of accountability for day to day financial management

In return, you will be making a positive impact for people in your local area by ensuring MCA is sustainable and meeting the needs of the community.  You will meet people and build relationships with trustees, staff and other volunteers and you will have the opportunity to build on your governance, leadership and strategy skills and increase your employability
