Job Description

Pentrebane Zone (Registered Charity) is seeking a treasurer with a background in finance to join its board of trustees. Our board is currently made up of eight trustees; a chair, a secretary, a treasurer and five other trustees all with various backgrounds.
We want you to actively contribute your finance skills to question and challenge our management decisions where you feel improvements to systems could be made. We would be looking for an individual that could support members of the board with correct procedures in compliance with the finance policy that follows our constitution and business plan.
The individual would hold a lot of responsibility within the charity, to ensure that finances were being spent and recorded in line with the funding bids & budgets from the many projects that we undertake.
We would need you to be able to produce end of year accounts and work with our independent examiner to ensure compliance prior to submitting accounts to the charity commission. These accounts would be presented to our members at our AGM.
You would need to be available to attend regular meetings with the board and finance sub-committee.
Who are we – Pentrebane zone is a hub of the community. As a charity we are responsible for the lease of the community centre for 25 years. Our mission is to provide opportunities for the community to help tackle hard times, run family-based activities, help improve people skills so training is an option. We have a community café that we run. Our aim is to build up community spirit and bring about positive changes to our neighbourhood. We mainly run the building as volunteers and we rely on people giving their time to keep the centre open. We apply for funding and support to run after school projects, develop new resources and provisions such as our new community wood work shop. In 2018 we became an employer and were able to take on our first staff members to support the youth & activities in the area.
Roles and Responsibilities –
• Book-keeping
• Banking
• Management of incoming and outgoing invoices
• Good knowledge of spreadsheets to help assist the board when making finance decisions
• A background in financial reporting is crucial to help the charity move forward in their mission. This would consist of you presenting the finance reports to the independent examiners.
• Being flexible and available to attend approx 12 meetings throughout the year
• You would be responsible for helping the board complete financial risk assessments in line with the finance policy.
