We believe the best start in life for a child begins at home with their family. Strong families raise happy children, helping them grow up to be the better parents of tomorrow. Our 70 volunteers work with about 125 local families every year in their own homes and in groups to help them cope when times get tough.
We are an independent local charity, with a turnover of about £200k a year. We are also part of the UK-wide Home-Start federation which offers guidance, support and a national brand. However, we raise all our own funds.
We are hugely respected by the local community and public services because we are good at what we do and have the evidence to prove it. In 2018 we won the Sussex Life award for Services to the Community and we have just become Rolls Royce's charity partner for 2019. We have a fabulous, committed team of staff, trustees and volunteers and we benefit from the active support of the Duchess of Norfolk.
We are currently developing a new strategy to respond to the growing demand for our support.while remaining a small local charity. We plan to offer a wider range of services and offer more diverse volunteering opportunities. Our big challenge is ensuring we can continue to bring in the funding to sustain our work. We have diversified considerably in the last three years and are confident of being able to sustain our income of about £200k. However, the finances require constant vigilance and this is why the Treasurer's role is so important.
We are a board of nine active trustees now with a wide range of professional skills. Our current Treasurer is standing down due to other commitments. He has done a great job of implementing a new finance system (QuickBooks) and improving our controls and reporting. The Board receives timely, easy to read financial information monthly in a form which supports good decision making. What we need now is someone to help the Board continue to identify and focus on the key financial issues and to provide a sound financial perspective to the Board's decision making.
This is a wonderful opportunity for someone with a finance background who would like to make a difference to every day families in their local community. Please give me a call or email if you would like to find out more about what's involved.
