About the role
Gingerbread is the leading national charity working with single parent families, championing their voices and keeping their needs at the heart of everything we do. Our vision is a world where diverse families can thrive, and our mission is to champion and enable single parent families to live secure, happy and fulfilling lives.
We do this through offering expert advice via our free helpline, supporting single parents to connect with each other via our peer support groups and online forum, and providing up-to-date online information resources tailored to single parents’ needs. We also influence positive systemic change that will improve the lives of single parents through our policy, research and campaigning activities.
Our work has never been more needed or more relevant. This has been brought into acute focus especially with Covid-19 – which is particularly difficult for single parents and their children, faced with the challenges of self-isolation, school and childcare closure and for many, loss of employment and increased debt. Urgent action is needed to better protect single parents and their children during this crisis and beyond, and we will be there to continue this vital work to work with single parents to protect their rights, welfare, and wellbeing.
With a new chair, a renewed focus and ambition to increase the reach, visibility, and impact of our work we are looking for new trustees to support our mission and make Gingerbread a household name. We want to ensure Gingerbread realises its future potential and enables more single parents to access necessary support.
Who we're looking for
You will be joining a capable and diverse board who work alongside a focused, talented and determined team. Together we are looking forward to an exciting future – we are steadfast, courageous and unwavering in our focus to support and champion single parents, and we are poised to achieve so much more. Our new trustees will support us to shape and deliver our new three-year strategy.
Our new trustees will be aligned to our vision, highly empathetic to single parents’ experiences and motivated to achieve social change. You will bring strong strategic commercial expertise and experience in digital transformation to support Gingerbread to evolve and develop our services. We are also looking for someone to join the board who has experience in campaigning, policy influencing and advocacy. It is important to us that our board reflects the diversity of single parents and has people with lived experience on board. Gingerbread is looking for proactive people who can keep us focused, but also enable us to evolve, develop and continue to respond to and champion the changing and diverse needs of single parents.
