Job Description

Centre 33 is a well-respected Cambridgeshire charity working to support young people aged 8 to 25.  We have been working in Cambridge and the surrounding areas for over 30 years, and have recently expanded our services to meet need across the whole county. 

We offer:

  • Information and support through drop-ins, assessment of need and onward referral
  • Support around sexual health, housing, and finance
  • Support to young carers
  • Mental health and counselling service

Centre 33 is looking for an individual who cares about and can be committed to the charity. The dynamic and hard working team at the charity provide help and practical advice to any young person in the region who needs it. It is an important service and requires a Trustee who recognises this and wants to contribute to the organisation's future development.

Centre 33 is an ambitious organisation and needs a strong board to support its development and ensure that it is able to continue to help young people who often have complex needs. As a Trustee you will contribute a great deal to the stability and direction of the charity.

Being a Trustee for Centre 33 will provide an opportunity to work with a team who are committed to the success of the charity. It will give you the chance to make a real and lasting difference to the wider community.

General Trustee responsibilities

  • To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
  • To ensure that the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its governing document
  • To ensure the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects
  • To contribute actively to the board of trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
  • To safeguard the good name and values of the organisation
  • To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation
  • To ensure the financial stability of the organisation
  • To protect and manage the property of the charity and to ensure the proper investment of the charity's funds
  • If the charity employs staff, to appoint the chief executive officer and monitor his / her performance.

In addition to the above statutory duties, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions.

This may involve:

  • Scrutinising board papers
  • Leading discussions or working groups
  • Focusing on key issues
  • Providing guidance on new initiatives
  • Other issues in which the trustee has special expertise

Centre 33 is an established charity, approaching its 40th anniversary. We have a very strong reputation in Cambridgeshire and South Cambs, however we offer a county wide service and therefore are seeking to broaden our reputation particularly in Fenland and Peterborough.

Time Commitment:

Minimum commitment is attendance and preparation for 6 meetings each year (some of which will be in the day time). You would also be expected to take on some extra time commitments depending your expertise and needs of the organisation at the time.
