Trustee & Treasurer roles at Project MAMA (Maternity Action for Migrants and Asylum-seekers)

We are recruiting 3 roles for our Board of Trustees at Project MAMA - Fundraising Trustee, Treasurer and Organisational Development Trustee. The Organisation

Project MAMA is a peer support service launched in March 2018, offering antenatal, birth and postnatal support to women who are asylum seekers, refugees, and those with irregular immigration status. We believe that every woman has the right to give birth safely, make her own empowered, evidence based choices and receive the support she needs for a positive birth and early parenting experience. We support women in Bristol through linking mamas with specialist birth companions who extol compassion and solidarity by supporting women who have overcome significant adversity on their journey to motherhood.

We are seeking individuals with a commitment to women's rights and gender equality, and who have:  expertise in migration and/or asylum policy; and/or knowledge of the migrant experience and migrant organisations.

Trustees are expected to attend four meetings a year, usually 6pm - 8pm on a weekday evening at our office in Easton, Bristol as well as our Annual General Meeting. We additionally request 1-2 days’ commitment per month to support the running of the organisation from Project MAMA Headquarters.

Project MAMA’s work and strategy is overseen by a voluntary Board of Trustees.  We are currently seeking three new members of this Board:

 

Role 1. Fundraising Trustee

The Fundraising Trustee will bring senior level experience to the board, ensuring that fundraising standards are in line with the high expectations of the charity’s donors and the wider public.  A Trustee with strong understanding of writing successful funding proposals and reporting financial information to decision-making boards.
 

Role 2. Treasurer

The Treasurer’s role is to liaise with the finance team and the coordinator to advise and guide the Board on their financial planning and strategy. The Treasurer is the leading interface between Trustees and management on financial matters.

 

Role 3. Organisational Development Trustee

The Organisational Development trustee will actively contribute to setting policy and strategic direction, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance.

Requirements

All successful applicants will: 

●      Be required to undergo an DBS check 

●      Be required to provide two references 

●      Be required to sign an agreement around confidentiality 

●      Be able to commit to at least 1 year as a board member

 

Application Information

We are especially interested in receiving applications from refugees and others who have had direct experience of the UK's asylum system. We are able to meet travel costs associated with attending Board meetings.
