Every day 15 people in the UK are told they have sarcoma, a cancer of the bone and soft tissue which can develop anywhere in the body.
Sarcoma UK is a national charity that funds research, supports anyone affected by the disease and campaigns for greater awareness and better treatments.
By next year we intend to be a £1m investor in sarcoma research, maintain our position as an expert information provider of choice and develop the charity as a strong national voice for sarcoma patients, healthcare professionals and researchers.
We are an organisation with big ambitions. Our vision is for a world where everyone affected by sarcoma cancer has the treatment, care and support they need. To do this we need to raise awareness of the condition and our charity, grow our income, attract and retain the best people and expand our lifesaving work. We are looking for dynamic, passionate individuals to join our volunteer Board of Trustees to help govern the charity.
We have a strong board of twelve trustees but we are currently seeking to replace two trustees who have come to the end of their terms.
We have recently carried out a skills and board review. A background in healthcare, HR, research, law, finance, business, communications are among the skills and experience that would contribute positively to the Board. Applications from people who have been personally affected by sarcoma will also be warmly received.
The Board supports the principles of the Charity Governance Code and welcomes applications from people with difference backgrounds, life experiences and career paths.
No experience of charities or governance is required – knowledge you have gained from other sectors or roles may be just as useful, coupled with energy, enthusiasm and a desire to make a difference. Sarcoma UK supports trustees to gain governance training.
There has never been a more exciting time to get involved with the work of Sarcoma UK.
