Founded by John and Brita Haycraft in 1953, International House London (IH London) is a non-profit-making educational trust committed to raising the standard of English language teaching and training worldwide. Over 10,000 students’ study with IH London each year. As a founding member of the International House World Organisation, IH London has a 50% stake in the International House World Organisation (IHWO), an affiliated network of 160 schools located in over 53 countries around the world. IH London, a leading independent language school based in Covent Garden, has a strong track record of success in the design and delivery of courses for English language teaching and teacher training. The course portfolio includes teaching of General English, Executive English, Young Learner and Foreign language courses, using a variety of delivery mediums. In addition to synchronous teaching, a range of asynchronous platforms have been developed which improve accessibility to our courses.

IH London excels in the field of language and communications training, and more widely in the area educational tourism. IH London is widely regarded as a world leader in language teaching, teacher training and trainer training. The Teacher Training programmes, for both native and non-native teachers of English as well as other languages, lead to recognised certificates. Most of the courses on offer aim to teach, explore and improve the underlying principles and practical applications of current ELT (English Language Teaching) methodologies and approaches. In addition to language teaching, IH London represents one of the largest test centres in Europe, accredited for Cambridge exams, IELTS, Linguaskill – General and Business, LanguageCert, and OET for medical English. Delivering computer-based and paper-based tests, IH London provides exams across the UK, Ireland, Israel, and Nigeria.

IH London carries a number of accreditations designed to ensure students receive the best quality of care and educational standards. Our latest EAQUALS inspection showed high quality standards in all areas, with the majority exceeding the high quality standards demonstrating “consistent excellence”. Other accrediting bodies include British Council, English UK, IELTS and ISI (Independent School Inspectorate) School Facilities Located in Covent Garden, the school has been voted as London’s best value school in terms of price, teaching quality and facilities. Our modern school sits across nine floors with a full library, computer resource centre, fully equipped large airy classrooms, Sky Lounge, and an onsite café. 


IH London is moving forward with the adoption of our new strategy, which includes digitisation, supported by a dynamic leadership team. Our growth strategy includes continuing gains in market share in General English, developing our Young Learners courses and expanding our Modern Languages programme.

We will continue to strengthen our Executive English, and Teacher Training. Our examinations service is rapidly expanding in West Africa. IHL governance structure comprises of a Board of Trustees, Finance and General Purpose Committee, Audit and Risk Committee, Remuneration & Nominations Committee, and Social Value Committee. We are seeking upto two new Trustees to further broaden the breadth and agility of our Board as we embark on a recovery and growth phase in the post pandemic environment. Working with a newly appointed Chair, you will be part of a strong and committed Trustee Board and joining an established charity with a strong legacy and market presence.

We are looking for candidates who can bring a wealth of experience and provide oversight at a senior level. We are particularly keen to attract candidates who bring at least one of the following areas of expertise – strong educational technology, preferably in ELT/Language teaching and/or finance backgrounds.
