This is an opportunity to become a Trustee of this charity a leader in its field of providing challenging outdoor activities to the disabled - 'it is what you can do that counts'

Lake District Calvert Trust’s mission is to enable people with disabilities to achieve their potential through the challenge of adventurous activities in the countryside in order for them to develop, change perceptions and make positive and lasting changes to their lives.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for Trustees to replace those members of the board who are due to retire in the next 2/3 years. We are also looking for new committee members to be co-opted tom our standing committees - Finance, Business Development, Audit, Operations and Friends of Calvert Trust.

We run a residential outdoor centre with 45 years of experience in delivering challenging outdoor adventure for people with disabilities. The centre is based on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake where we offer a warm welcome, accessible accommodation and exciting short breaks for schools, groups, families and individuals with their friends and carers. We cater for people of all ages with sensory, learning, or physical disabilities, including those with the most complex needs for which most outdoor centres cannot cater.

We have a newly opened a nationally ground breaking residential centre delivering rehabilitation for people who have an acquired brain injury. This centre is based at Old Windebrowe, a converted 18th century barn and farmhouse on the outskirts of Keswick, with individual rooms and relaxing common areas and living facilities.

What are we looking for?

We are always keen to develop the diversity of our board and therefore would welcome to hear from women, ethnic minorities, young people and those with disabilities. We are particularly interested in recruiting individuals from a wide range of experiences. These could include strong interest and experience in equestrian, IT, HR and working in the disabled community. Previous experience of being a Trustee is not essential but having worked in a senior managerial role would be helpful. Meetings of the board and each of the standing committees usually have quarterly meetings.

What difference will you make?

Trustees are are elected for a 3 year period and are eligible for reelection to serve a total of 9 years. Increasingly as a Trustee or as a member of a standing committee you will be able to make a considerable contribution in supporting the needs of the management team.

What's in it for the volunteer?

The Trustee board is a very cohesive unit with a good balance of skills and this is an opportunity to contribute to maintaining this effective team.

Time commitment
There are quarterly meetings of the board and a similar number of meeting of Standing Committees. Most trustees sit on several Standing Committees.
