About Reach Volunteering
Reach Volunteering is the leading skills-based volunteering charity in the UK. We are the single biggest source of trustees for the voluntary sector in the UK. Connecting people, skills and good causes is our mission and our passion.
What will you be doing?
Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that Reach achieves its core purpose. They strategically oversee the management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that Reach has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable Reach to grow and thrive, and through this, the thousands of organisations and volunteers that it serves.
As a small charity, there will be times when the trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.
There is a complete trustee role description in the candidate pack.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our Board. You do not need previous governance experience – we will provide a full induction and training.
We are particularly interested in applications from people with one or more of the following skills:
- Knowledge of sector level approaches to strengthening governance, championing skills-based volunteering and / or organisational development.
- Diversity and Inclusion: expertise in building an intersectional approach to equity.
- Experience of leading a small – medium sized charity.
We are committed to bringing equity, diversity and inclusion into the heart of our services and how we operate. Increasing the diversity of our Board is an important step towards this goal. We would especially welcome applications from people from Black, Asian & ethnic minority backgrounds; people with a disability and younger people (under 35 years), who are all under-represented on our Board.
What difference will you make?
A trustee with governance and/or volunteering and/or organisational development at sector level would help lead board discussions about our service direction and priorities, help raise Reach’s public profile in these areas and draw on their networks to further Reach’s work (for example, building relationships with prospective partners, collaborators and funders).
A trustee with Diversity and Inclusion expertise would help ensure that diversity, inclusion and equity are at the heart of all Board discussions and decisions. They would help Reach take a strategic approach to EDI and embed it in our services and operations.
A trustee with experience of leading a small – medium sized charity would bring lived experience of charities’ user needs and add depth to Board representation of our users. They would help ensure that our service remains focused on the right things.
What’s in it for the volunteer?
You will be joining a successful charity with a strong sense of purpose and ambitious plans for the future.
This is what one of our current trustees had to say:
“There is a mutually supportive and respectful relationship between the CEO, staff, volunteers and trustees and this carries through into trustee meetings, which are business-like – occasionally robust – but always friendly and constructive
There are five Board meetings annually and a half day strategy session. Ad hoc and occasional support.
How to apply:
Please send a short letter outlining why you are interested in joining our board, your relevant skills and experience (see What we are looking for) and how you think you could apply your skills and experience to strengthen our board. Please also attach a CV or similar (LinkedIn profile, portfolio etc). Applications should be sent to: email@example.com.
If you have any questions prior to making an application or would like to speak to one of our trustees or our CEO please contact Rachel Ord who will arrange this.
Deadline: 3rd March. Interviews will be held weeks commencing 15th and 23rd March.
