Bethphage is a charity operating in Shropshire and the West Midlands providing support to adults with a learning disability in supported living services, registered care homes and day opportunities. We support almost 200 people, delivering 7500 hours per week of support on 50 separate sites, employing over 300 staff with an annual turnover of £7 million and generate year on year surpluses in line with targets. Our turnover has increased by 50% in the last three years and we expect to continue growing at a similar rate in the next 2-3 years. Bethphage is managed by a professional management team and experienced finance team which includes two qualified accountants. The board of voluntary trustees have a range of business skills and wish to add a qualified accountant to their complement. The role involves attending quarterly board meetings (each on a Friday afternoon and Saturday morning) and support for the Executive Management Team amounting to up to one day per month on average. Meetings are normally held in Shrewsbury.
In a sector where there have been all too many stories of things going wrong, Bethphage is a beacon of good practice, having delivered high quality services in Shropshire and the West Midlands for almost a quarter of a century. Our services are rated "good" by the Care Quality Commission in all locations and the councils who commission our services have all judged us good in contract reviews. Delivering excellent value for money is one of our strategic aims and this is exemplified by achieving a modest surplus in every financial year whilst growing the organisation, investing in property for the first time, achieving recurring efficiency savings to enable us to award pay increases greater than our fee increases year after year and to return funding to our commissioners when we achieve savings.
Becoming a trustee of Bethphage is an opportunity to make a posiitve difference to the lives of adults with disabilities, see the tangible benefits of your voluntary service and be part of a successful organisation where you can see the pleasure and value your involvement brings to people.
