We are the North of England Zoological Society and we run Chester Zoo. For over 80 years we’ve been a leading conservation and education charity, and an amazing, award-winning visitor attraction. As the most visited zoo in the UK, we are passionate about giving our 2 million visitors a year an inspirational day out.
Our mission is preventing extinction and we work on conservation projects in 6 regions around the globe, representing some of the planet’s most biodiverse habitats. Through our varied learning programmes, a large part of our role as a zoo is to raise awareness and connect people with wildlife.
We employ over 1,000 people as well as 200 volunteers at our Chester site, who all play a part in protecting wildlife from keepers to caterers and accountants to events.
We currently have an opportunity for two new Trustees to fill vacancies on our Board as part of our succession planning.
The roles are voluntary with reasonable expenses reimbursed and new Trutess will receive a full induction and relevant training. The board meets in Chester six times a year and attends an annual two day strategy away day.
As a Trustee, you will support the development of the zoo’s strategy, act as a guardian for the zoo’s assets and ensure that governance is of the highest possible standard. You’ll also get to work alongside talented, expert people from a variety of fields and disciplines who love wildlife and care about nature.
Please do get in contact if you share our conservation mission and have skills in one of the following areas:
- Accounting or Finance
- Political influencing
- Animal welfare or conservation
Previous board or business experience in a large complex organisation would be beneficial.
