About The Organisation
EASST is an independent UK-registered charity whose mission is to save lives and prevent injuries by making road transport safer, greener and more sustainable for future generations. Since its establishment in 2009, EASST has built a vibrant network of local partner NGOs across Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia - contributing to significant reforms in the region and to the UN Sustainable Development Goals for safe, sustainable and inclusive transport.
Road crashes are the leading cause of death for young people in every world region, and globally account for more fatalities than malaria. Road death and injury is preventable. EASST's mission is to reduce road casualties and promote sustainable mobility by building local capacity and expertise in the countries where we work.
EASST concentrates its efforts in a region where road deaths are particularly high, with casualties 6 times higher than in the UK. We build local road safety capacity by giving modest, mentored grants to our partners and working with them to carry out local projects.
EASST has a small Board of Trustees chaired by Lord Whitty, a former UK Road Safety Minister, and includes member with great expertise in the region and in the subject. EASST's core funding comes from the FIA Foundation, a global charity based in the UK. We also receive private donations for our work, and carry out projects directly funded by a variety of donors.
EASST is looking for a new Trustee to take on the role of Treasurer, working closely with the Executive Director and other EASST staff who manage EASST's accounts and payments. The Trust is keen to find someone who will assist in reviewing the regular financial reports presented to the Trust Board. The Treasurer will also help to advise on financial matters and issues with local and international banking, and participate in the annual meeting with EASST's accountants/auditors.
We are looking for someone with excellent financial management skills, experience of working in the charity/NFP sector, an interest in international development, and some time to devote to regular meetings with EASST staff (approximately one day per quarter). In addition, the successful candidate would be expected to attend 4 board meetings a year, held in Central London.
As our financial transactions involve countries outside the UK, EASST will give preference to candidates with experience of international banking transactions and accounting.
Experience of working with countries in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus or Central Asia or knowledge of road safety would be an advantage but not essential.
