The Wordsworth Trust, one of UK’s foremost literary heritage organisations, is looking for Trustees to join its board.
Based in Grasmere, in the heart of the English Lake District, the Wordsworth Trust has a truly international focus. Funded by Arts Council England, we look after Wordsworth’s home, Dove Cottage, and a globally-significant collection of manuscripts, books and paintings relating to the Romantic period (1750-1850), an epoch that helped to shape the modern world. Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum attract nearly 50,000 visitors a year.
To mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of William Wordsworth in 2020 we have embarked on a £6 million project, Reimagining Wordsworth. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Reimagining Wordsworth will revolutionise the way that people see, think and feel about one of our greatest poets and reinforce Dove Cottage’s reputation as a world-class visitor attraction.
At this landmark moment in our history we are seeking outstanding candidates to provide high-level leadership across a range of disciplines including: finance, legal, community engagement, commercial (particularly tourism-related), new media, legal, fundraising, education (particularly higher education), Wordsworth and Romanticism. We are especially keen to increase the diversity of the board and welcome applications from both Cumbria-based candidates and those from further afield. Trustees meet four times a year with meetings in Grasmere and London.
