Coffin Club is a community project with the objective of expanding local people’s knowledge of their options when it comes to their end of life celebration. Through a six week course (one session a week) participants are taught about different options from professionals in the field and can opt into spending the second half of the session decorating their own flat pack coffin.
“As morbid as it may look at first glance it is amazing how enthusiastic and interested people are once you give them the opportunity to talk openly about death.”
The sessions are informative, creative, social and fun for those involved and have many benefits including saving people money on funerals, empowering people to make their own choices, tackling social isolation within the community (especially for our elderly participants), and tackling the last big taboo in our society.
Coffin Club is in the beginning stage of establishment and looking for Trustees with the energy and experience to drive the development of the organisation as it sets up in London. There is also the opportunity to draw on the experience of other Coffin Clubs already established across the UK.
The organisation is looking for Trustees with different experience, specifically financial and legal. Coffin Club is also keen to receive the support of a Trustee with a background in end of life services and the legal aspects of this.
