Orchestras Live is seeking new trustees.

Orchestras Live is looking for people like you to play a key role in the future development of this vibrant charity.

A national music charity with over 50 years’ experience, Orchestras Live believes orchestras are for everyone. We are now looking for up to four new trustees from across England with an enthusiasm for orchestral music and belief in its potential to transform lives.  

As a trustee, you will play a crucial role in helping Orchestras Live to create environments where music and creativity can thrive. We work to ensure diverse communities across the country have access to world-class orchestral experiences, particularly in culturally under-served rural, coastal and disadvantaged urban areas outside London. We are seeking to recruit trustees to be active and involved members of a dynamic and ambitious team and to take forward the strategic development of the charity.  

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, age groups and cultures. It is not necessary to have previous trustee or committee experience as training will be provided. 

We are committed to improving the diversity of the orchestral sector on and off the platform and aim to reflect this ambition in the make up of our Board. We help make this possible by providing access support for people with disabilities, meeting in accessible venues, being flexible in scheduling meetings at different times of day and covering travel expenses.  

We would particularly, but not exclusively, welcome applications from people who can contribute to the Board’s effectiveness in any or a combination of the following areas:  

  • Orchestral music – whether performance, programming or promotion  
  • Finance – professional background as accountant or finance director (accountancy qualification would be an advantage)  
  • Health & Wellbeing – health sector policy development; arts and health initiatives   

Trustees meet as a full Board at least four times a year supplemented by a small number of standing committees and working groups as required. Board meetings usually take place in London, with at least one a year outside London and an annual Awayday. Committees and working groups often meet virtually via video/phone conference. Trustees are expected to attend at least two Orchestras Live activities annually and contribute to our internal evaluation systems.   

Whilst the role is voluntary and unpaid, travel and other appropriate expenses are reimbursed.
