Redwings Horse Sanctuary
We are looking a new Treasurer, one with significant experience as an accounting/finance professional, to join the Redwings Board. Trustees are volunteer roles, and requirements include attending Board meetings (4-6 per annum) held on a Wednesday afternoon. Some meetings will be held remotely as this has worked over the past year.
Our Head Office is in South Norfolk on a site that is also home to our Horse Hospital, Rehoming, Administration and Mail Order warehouse. In addition, we have five visitor centres, two in Norfolk, plus Warwickshire, Essex and Forfar (Scotland), and other sites which operate as sanctuary farms. Redwings employs over 300 staff, and we are supported by volunteers.
We are a registered charity in England & Wales (1068911) and Scotland (SC045070) and have a wholly owned trading company ‘Redwings Enterprises Limited’ (Company 3524502). We have merged with three other charities; in 2005 with Ada Cole Memorial Stables, in 2015 with Mountains Animal Sanctuary; and in 2019 with the Society for the Welfare of Horses & Ponies (SWHP), these charities are now part of the Redwings family.
Trustees are Directors of Redwings Horse Sanctuary. Trustees set the strategy and ensure that the charity is well-governed. The charity is managed by a Chief Executive, supported by a senior management team of two Executive Directors – Resources, and Income & Engagement - and six Departmental heads – Norfolk Equine Operations, Welfare & Behaviour, Veterinary, Fundraising, Communications & Campaigns, and Compliance. We have a strong finance team in place led by a FCA.
We focus our spending on equine care, therefore our income demands are high. Pre Covid-19 we typically needed over £11m for our everyday work and an additional £2m for capital works each year. In-house professional staff manage both our income generation and the financial controls of the monies we receive.
Interested candidates need to read the Trustee Briefing document, on the Work for Us section of the Redwings website www.redwings.org.uk, for an overview of how the Board operates and how to apply. Closing date for receipt of applications is 10am on Monday 12th July 2021 by email to Liz Halford, Executive Assistant to the CEO - firstname.lastname@example.org
