Medact is a registered charity supporting the health community (mainly but not exclusively UK-based health workers) to work together towards a world in which everyone can truly achieve their human right to health. We do this through evidence-based campaigning for solutions to the social, political, and economic conditions which damage health, deepen health inequalities and threaten peace and security. Our main focus is the UK, but we work in partnership and solidarity with health justice organisations across the world.
You will act as a co-opted trustee and Treasurer, in place of the current Treasurer who is relinquishing the role after several years. You will take the oversight lead, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, on all financial aspects of the charity’s operation. You will work closely with the Medact’s Operations Manager in preparing accounts and financial statements, developing budgets for approval, managing the charity’s assets and mitigating financial risks. We have well integrated systems and procedures in place, and we are looking for someone to provide oversight of the maintenance and/or development of these.
Ideally, we are looking for a qualified accountant who has experience in the charity sector, or someone who is familiar with budgets and accounts and the preparation of annual financial statements. The ideal candidate would share Medact's core values around equity and health justice.
On average, about 2 hours a month – but some times are busier than others. The Board meets 4 times a year, either remotely or (in normal circumstances) face-to-face. The duration of the co-option is one year, which may be renewable. Although Medact is based in London, most of our work is conducted remotely, not just during the current Covid crisis, but also going forward.
Please send a brief CV and covering letter to the Chair of the Board, Professor Alan Maryon-Davis at firstname.lastname@example.org
