Trustee Treasurer role details
Unreal is a new mental health charity, established in 2019. We are the only charity in the UK that exists for Depersonalisation Derealisation Disorder (DPRD) - one of the most common yet under-recognised psychiatric conditions in the world.
Our mission is to reach out to people with lived experience of DPRD and their carers and families. We seek to raise awareness of DPRD, to provide support and to promote involvement through providing up to date information, signposting, networking, the sharing of experiences and by celebrating success.
It is an exciting time for Unreal as we prepare for our launch in 2020. At such a pivotal time for the charity, and to achieve our objectives, we are looking for an experienced and committed individual with a financial / accountancy background to join our Board as Trustee Treasurer.
We are looking for a treasurer to make sure the charity keeps proper accounts and help trustees carry out their financial responsibilities. The role of treasurer will ensure that the charity has robust and effective financial controls in place, regularly reviewing the charity’s financial performance.
Presenting financial reports to the board in a format that helps the board understand the charity’s financial position
Advising the board on how to carry out its financial responsibilities
Liaising with professional advisors – charity accountants / auditors
Overseeing the preparation of annual accounts
Taking on some or all financial duties, such as book-keeping, budgeting and preparation of reports
Overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process
The ideal candidate for this role will have a financial / accountancy background
Ability to both constructively challenge and support the team
Ability to work as part of a team, with a strategic vision and a commitment to the organisation
A commitment to the work of Unreal and its constituent parts
A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the role
An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of the role
An ability to work effectively with others
Previous experience within the charity sector and especially within the mental health sector
An understanding of the voluntary sector and previous experience as a board member or charity trustee

Being an Unreal trustee offers a number of benefits:
Opportunities to boost your public profile
Opportunities to build valuable networks and relationships
The chance to give something back to an organisation that really values your support
The chance to help people to access much-needed support, advice and information
The reward of being involved in a charity from the early stages and watching it grow
Working with a friendly and dedicated group of people

If you would like to be involved in a dynamic, innovative charity and would be committed to our objectives and seeing the charity succeed, we would be delighted to hear from you.
