Treasurer opportunity with Malvern Special Families
Set up in the 1980s by a group of parents whose children had special needs, Malvern Special Families (MSF) is a small but highly regarded charity helping to improve the lives of children and young people with disabilities along with their families. They do this through delivering excellent clubs and play schemes, enabling children to socialise and to develop confidence and new skills through play-based activities and by raising awareness about special needs in the community. They also provide a vital support and break to carers and families.
We make a huge positive difference to the lives of the children and young people that use our services and to their families. We often hear from MSF families that our service provides a lifeline to them.
MSF are now looking for a new Treasurer to join the board of trustees. The new Treasurer will be required to lead on the financial responsibilities of the charity, developing and securing the legal and financial wellbeing of the organisation.
The Treasurer will also join the current board in its role as a governing body: setting strategy and ensuring exemplary governance and fiscal control to guide and develop this forward thinking organisation.
Whilst the Treasurer is not required to be a qualified accountant they will need to demonstrate a strong financial background along with good business acumen. Most importantly they will have an understanding of good charity governance and be interested in the work of MSF. They will also need to be able to inspire and motivate whilst showing sensitivity. They will need to understand the changing environment of the sector and identify opportunities for MSF to develop.

The board has bi-monthly evening meetings. There will be some additional preparation for meetings and representation of the organisation externally plus support for the CEO.
Candidates will need to have or be willing to undertake a DBS check and child protection training.
