Faversham Counselling Services (FCS)
Unremunerated, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed
Help us ensure that essential mental health services are available at a local level.
Faversham Counselling Services (FCS) is an established Kent based mental health charity providing a valued service both within the local community and beyond. We are a professional and confidential counselling service for young people and adults from all walks of life seeking help and support with personal, emotional or relationship problems. We offer free NHS IAPT (talking) therapies, as well as private and low-cost private therapy.
Our Managing Director joined five years ago, and has overseen a doubling in income, considerable growth in staff numbers, and a growth in our NHS contracts. We have excellent counsellors and deliver an effective service. We also provide training to final year counselling students, providing placements, mentoring and supervision. We are now developing our future strategy, including expanding our low-cost counselling, increasing the amount of training we provide, growing our work with young people, increasing the amount of high intensity therapy we undertake, and continuing to develop our work with the NHS. Our income and reserves are healthy but we are clear that we need to diversify our funding streams to strengthen our long term sustainability.
Our new Treasurer will ensure there is strategic oversight of FCS’s financial affairs and its longer-term financial viability, and act as a critical friend to the Managing Director, especially as we consider new income streams. You will have senior management experience as a finance professional, and your strategic finance skills will enable you to support the Board in their understanding of the strategic financial picture of FCS. With business acumen and an entrepreneurial approach, you will have a strong understanding of good governance.
The time commitment required will be around 12 days per year, including 6-8 board meetings held in the evening and an Away Day to discuss future strategy.
To be a Trustee of an organisation is an exciting and fulfilling role and the most effective Boards are ones which benefit from individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds, experiences and skill sets. We actively seek candidates from diverse backgrounds and communities.
