We are here to make society fairer. Coventry Citizens Advice does that one person at a time, helping people solve their individual problems and build resilience for the future. We provide free, impartial, independent, and confidential advice to the people of Coventry online, over the phone, and face-to-face. At the heart of our service is the direct support we give through advice and information to anyone who contacts us and needs our help.
Our services are wide ranging. For example, we support people in need with advice and we campaign in the following areas: access to justice; employment; housing and homelessness; family; health and community care; money; debt and financial inclusion, and consumer empowerment.
Never have we been more needed or undergone such transformation as we have during the Covid-19 pandemic. We have continued to provide much needed information, advice and guidance to those who need it and have found there has been a surge of people seeking support. This is likely to increase and continue increasing for the foreseeable future as life becomes even more complicated with increased social anxiety and economic uncertainty. In 2019-20 through our generalist and specialist advice services, we supported over 10,800 unique clients with more than 50,000 issues: more people and issues than ever before.
We are at a vital point as an organisation if we are to continue to support more people in more ways. With this in mind we are looking to appoint a new Treasurer who can support us as we evolve.
We are looking for a financially qualified person who shares our values and can support, challenge, and advise us on our strategic direction. You will support our executive finance lead and help develop better financial insight for fellow board members.
We are keen to ensure our board is diverse and represents our whole society, therefore applications from people from a broad range of backgrounds, and first-time trustees are particularly of interest.
Our board meets six times a year for two hours (currently virtually) and our Finance, Risk and Audit Committee meet six times a year for an hour in the evening. We expect the time commitment to total about one day per month.
