More people are living longer lives and as an organisation we need to be fit for the years to come and ready to deliver the services our older people tell us they need. We are developing innovative new offers, such as our upcoming pilot to deliver an evidence based long-term supportive intervention for people living with dementia and exploring how exciting developments in technology can best support people as they age.
We are part of a new integrated care service for older adults – My Care, My Way. This service is designed to provide older people with additional support to help manage health and wellbeing, prevent unplanned hospital admissions and help people to stay independent. We are part of this innovative pilot programme which works with 40 new members of staff – Health & Social Care Assistants who are based in GP surgeries across Kensington & Chelsea to coordinate and identify where support is needed.
It is an exciting time to join our board as we embark on our new three-year strategy. After our governance review, we have identified skills which will add value to our board. We are looking for people who can champion our organisation, who are strategic and innovative and bring enthusiasm. We are a values driven charity and older people are at the heart of everything we do in our community. We are looking for people who are committed and dedicated to supporting older people.
Who we're looking for
We want to attract people from a range of backgrounds including, but not limited to, finance professionals, people with experience in charity fundraising – in particular in individual giving, major donor and corporate partnerships – and people with experience in marketing, communications and digital. We are keen for our Board to reflect the diversity of our borough.
We are looking for a new Treasurer who will ensure there is strategic oversight of Age UK Kensington & Chelsea’s financial affairs, while acting as a critical friend to James, our Director of Finance. Our Treasurer will also Chair our Finance & Risk Committee. We have recently established our new trading arm, Age United, which works with people of all ages. Our new Treasurer will become one of our Directors of this exciting initiative which has just won its first contract. Meetings for Age United will take place immediately after our Finance & Risk Committee meeting.
The Board currently meet bi-monthly in the evening but looking ahead we are planning to meet quarterly. We currently have two sub committees – Finance & Risk and Quality Committee – which both meet four times a year. We expect the time commitment for our Trustees to be about one day a month depending on the need of our organisation.
