Treasurer for local Age UK Horsham

The Organisation

Age UK Horsham District is an independent and local charity which is a full brand partner of Age UK. This means that we work together with Age UK and their 160 brand partners in a spirit of collaboration and mutual support to achieve our common goals. Our vision is a place where everyone has the opportunity for good quality later life. In order to achieve this we provide services and activities to promote and improve wellbeing and quality of later life in Horsham District.

The Opportunity

The Board of Age UK Horsham District currently comprises 7 members with a skill base including, HR, law, financial services, business skills, marketing, digital and health and social care as well as service development. The Trustees working with the staff and volunteer team, our partners and local older people will be reviewing our proposition locally.

We are looking for a Treasurer with a combination of strategic, governance and operational experience and skills who is able to guide our Finance Manager, Chair the Finance Committee (a sub-committee of the Board of Trustees) and lead on financial strategy for the charity. The Treasurer is responsible for financial reporting and for ensuring that the charity’s finances are well-managed & compliant.

The Person

We would particularly value talking to candidates who are qualified or part-qualified in accountancy or have equivalent experience. Some familiarity with charity financial management would be useful, but not essential.

Board members are expected to attend around 6 board meetings a year which are currently held during the day. In addition, there will be an annual planning and development day and other sessions linked to strategy development and potential membership of sub committees. The Treasurer has a specific lead role for the Finance Sub Committee, which meets four times per annum, links with our annual Independent Examination and will want to meet with the Finance Manager at least monthly.
