Sherborne Museum is located in the market town of Sherborne, Dorset, close to the Somerset border. We are a small independent volunteer-run museum, the first to achieve full accreditation in Dorset. In 2018 we made the transition from Association to CIO, streamlined the Board of Trustees and designed a new logo and new-look visitor literature. We are a friendly team, passionate about local history and our lovely museum and keen to engage with diverse audiences through an exciting programme of activities and events.
We have around 8000 visitors each year and aim to be a focal point in the community. We encourage school visits and open out of hours to accommodate special requirements, such as for families with children on the autism spectrum. We provide loans boxes to schools as well as memory boxes for sufferers of dementia as part of our outreach work. We are supported in these endeavours by approximately 65 volunteers.
The Board of Trustees wishes to appoint a Treasurer to join our friendly board to manage the books and accounts. The ideal candidate would have a background in accounting and/or finance and be able to devote around 2 hours each week to the role, although at certain points in the year the workload will increase a little, for example when the Trustees Annual Report is due and when budgets are being set. The Treasurer is also required to attend board meetings which take place every 2-3 months, usually on Monday mornings from 10am to 12pm although we can be flexible with this.
If you are interested in this role, please send an email to our Chair, Nicola Berry, at firstname.lastname@example.org, telling us a bit about yourself and how you meet our criteria. Please include a phone number and a member of the Board will be in touch for an informal chat in the first instance. If you then wish to proceed you will be sent a role description and an application form.
We look forward to hearing from you.
