Justice For Men and Boys
2 Hours per week, or less, on average are all that is needed to keep simple accounting transactions in order for the small political party “Justice for Men & Boys (and the women who love them)” – “J4MB” - and to prepare simple pre-formatted year end accounts in compliance with the requirements of the Electoral Commission (EC). These accounts showed income of £15,134 and cash balances totalling £4,815 for the year to 31st December 2019. http://search.electoralcommission.org.uk/English/Accounts/ST0022191.
J4MB, http://j4mb.org.uk – is the only political party in the English-speaking world campaigning for the human rights of men and boys. The party has attracted more mainstream media coverage on men’s issues than all other organizations and individuals combined over the past eight years and benefits from income from a small but loyal, stable and committed supporter base.
Whilst there has been cultural resistance to the notion that men (and boys) have issues that need to be addressed, things are changing. There is an annual debate in the UK Parliament on International Men’s Day (19th November) each year and there is a recently formed All Party Parliamentary Group to consider and look into issues affecting men and boys. Some sense of the reality of these issues, and the systemic disadvantaging of men and boys, can be gathered by a quick look over the party’s 2015 general election manifesto https://j4mb.org.uk/2015-general-election-manifesto/ which sets out some 20 areas affecting every stage of life where men and boys experience injustice, inequality and discrimination and where, for example, the male suicide rate in the UK is three times that for women.
Mike Buchanan, founder and Party Leader has also been a key figure in running and hosting several International Conferences on Men’s Issues, and he’s the Conference Director for the 2021 online event http://icmi2021.icmi.info. (However, please note that it is not envisaged that these events will be included in the Teasuer’s responsibilities, although this could be subject to discussion if felt to be of interest.)
The Treasurer is responsible to the Party Leader and also the EC. The role includes day to day bookkeeping leading to pre-formatted annual accounts, internal control, cash management and compliance with the governance and reporting requirements of the EC, one of which is the appointment of a Treasurer. These tasks are very straight forward at this level of income and activity. The bookkeeping is currently recorded using Moneydance bookkeeping software. The current Treasurer (aged 74), who has been with the party since it was founded in 2013, is now seeking to take early retirement to spend more time with his dog.
