The Treasurer will work with the Office Manager and Chief Officer to monitor the financial standing of the charity. This will include:
- Reporting to the Board regarding the overarching strategic management of the organisation’s financial resources.
- Overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process and report financial health to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals.
- Act as a counter signatory on applications to funders where necessary and ensure that annual accounts are submitted to all relevant regulators in a timely fashion.
- Liaise with independent examiners on financial issues and ensuring that the organisation’s finances are responsibly managed/invested for the betterment of the organisation’s work and for the beneficiaries it serves.
Day to day administration of the accounts, preparation of reports etc. is carried out by the Office Manager but the Treasurer will need to take an overview and provide advice where necessary.
There are 4 Trustee and 4 Finance Sub-Committee meetings each year. These are currently held during working hours but a change may be considered to recruit the right candidate. Trustees are also encouraged to participate in ad hoc training and development days, awards ceremonies and fundraisers and are welcome to visit activities where appropriate.
It is essential that the volunteer has experience of financial management. Knowledge of charity finances would be a bonus.
They should work well in a team, be able to communicate financial information in a simple and understandable way and be committed to improving the lives of children and young people.
