Friends of Exeter Ship Canal
The Friends of Exeter Ship Canal was set up in 2016, the year of the 450th anniversary of the opening of Exeter Ship Canal, the country's oldest pound-lock canal. We organise volunteer work parties along the canal to maintain banks, towpaths and locks and work to conserve the waterway's maritime heritage. Our aim, through lobbying, campaigning and publicity is to attract more boats and to encourage marine-based businesses to make the canal once again a functioning waterway and sustain it as an asset for everyone to enjoy now and in the future.
We received a start up grant from Exeter Quay and Canal Trust and have a growing membership paying annual subscriptions. Our treasurer since formation has had to step down because of other demands on his time and we need a replacement who will advise and manage the Friends' financial affairs. We hope the treasuer would also join the committee and take as active a part as s/he wished in the Friends' various activities.
