APE Project CIC is a children’s play, recreation, and activity provider. Formed in 2007, its mission is to improve the lives of children and young people living in deprivation by providing stimulating, exciting, and educational experiences in safe, supported environments. APE is governed by 11 Non- Executive Directors from the local community and run by founders and Executive Directors Guy Dobson and Rachel Davies who have over 20 years’ experience in play. To date, we have engaged over 9410 children and young people, visited 41 schools, attended 76 community events, supported 152 volunteers, facilitated 15 work experience placements, and trained 4 young apprentices. In 2017 APE took over St Paul’s Adventure Playground (APG) to protect it from closure. We have since secured capital funding to refurbish the site, and have seen hundreds of children return to play. Our goal is to establish an inclusive place of discovery, sanctuary, and inspiration within our community.
We are currently seeking a Treasurer to join our Management Committee of Non-Executive Directors. It would be ideal if this person was Bristol-based to help support our rapidly growing organisation.
The Committee members meet formally on the first Wednesday of every month in Bristol for a two hour meeting. Alongside this, each trustee has an individual area of responsibility (fundraising, IT etc) in which they directly help the executive directors with their roles. We estimate that non executive directors on the Management Committee should budget on a one to two hour a week time commitment.
The duties of a trustee are as follows.
● Ensure compliance with ongoing accounting best practice, policies, regulations and effective financial procedures
● Review and provide advice on the necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits delivered to the Board
● Working with the Directors and Chair in providing firm governance and strategic financial direction
● Provide guidance to the Board on financial matters
● Chair the financial sub committee if it is required
What’s in it for you?
It is an exciting time to join APE Project CIC, in making decisions about growing its current offerings to the community and playing an important part, in realising a range of medium to long term major strategic opportunities.
