RASASC - Rape Crisis South London
We are a registered charity providing services to female survivors of sexual violence based in Croydon. We run the Rape Crisis National Sexual Violence Helpline, offer face to face and group counselling, an Advocacy Service for survivors going through the Criminal Justice System and we are firmly committed to ending violence against women & girls by raising awareness about the myths and stigma surrounding rape. Our service is a very busy woman only service with around 60 staff and volunteers
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed female Treasurer to join us on the Board. The Board is a dynamic group of professional women who are committed to helping this vital cause which is dedicated to the healing and empowerment of around 5,000 survivors of sexual violence every year.
Responsibilities of the Treasurer
The overall role of the treasurer is to maintain an overview of the organisation’s affairs, ensuring its financial viability and ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.
- To assist the strategic development of the organisation and provide financial oversight.
- Lead the Board’s duty to ensure proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are controlled, invested and economically spent in line with governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
- Preparation of management accounts for presentation to the Board (6-8 sets per year).
- Preparation of statutory year end accounts.
- Regular liaison with the Bookkeeper and Auditor.
- A commitment to the vision and aims of Rape & Sexual Abuse Support Centre.
- Financial qualifications with proven commercial awareness and knowledge.
- Ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders.
- Strategic vision and good, independent judgement.
- An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
- Commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
- Knowledge of charity SORP and impending changes.

The Treasurer is required to attend Board meetings, which take place every six weeks, usually on a Tuesday evening. For preparation of accounts and other financial matters you should allow approximately one day per month, (allocating the time at your convenience), with some extra time needed around year end.
