The Foundation supports public education by providing research facilities, maintaining and developing the Gerald Coke Handel Collection, a research collection of over 12,000 items related to the composer George Frideric Handel and his contemporaries, which is held in the Foundling Museum. The Foundation administers the endowment of around £3 million that accompanies the Collection and assists the Foundling Museum with its care.
The role of the Treasurer is to provide financial leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees and to assist them in ensuring that the Foundation fulfils its legal and constitutional obligations and, in particular, acts within generally accepted accounting practice and principles. The Treasurer will therefore ensure that effective and appropriate financial procedures and controls are in place enabling the Board to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and direction of the Foundation.
The Treasurer will also be expected to monitor the performance of its investments, which provide the majority of the Foundation's income, by liaising with the appointed investment managers and in assisting the Board to understand the financial performance of the investment portfolio. The investment managers normally attend one Board meeting each year.
We are therefore looking for a committed person with financial management experience who will be able to attend Board meetings and be a positive and active member of the Board.
If you are interested in this honorary position please send brief details of your financial and management experience and any other relevant information to Katharine Hogg, Secretary of the Foundation, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by post to the Gerald Coke Handel Collection, The Foundling Museum, 40 Brunswick Square, London WC1N 1AZ, preferably by 31 July 2019. For further information please feel free to contact the Secretary at the same address.
Time commitment: Meetings & work commitments • To attend all Board of Trustee meetings (currently 3 per year on a weekday, between 1pm – 5pm).
