Tiverton Primary School is an inclusive school in the heart of a diverse community in Haringey, North London. We are an improving school with many strengths, rated Ofsted 'Good with Outstanding features' and always continuing to improve.
At Tiverton, the governors, staff, pupils and families work actively in partnership to enable all children to achieve their full potential, both academic and personal, through a creative, stimulating curriculum that is underpinned by a nurturing, inclusive environment.
We are looking for a governor to enhance our governing body with important skills and experience in finance.
Our governing body has a sound knowledge of the school sector, and a shared commitment to the values of our school. We work well together to support and challenge the Headteacher, with the support of a highly knowledgeable and competent clerk, as well as a strong relationship with a supportive local authority.
The time commitment is six two-hour meetings 6-8pm on Wednesday evenings plus around three one-hour finance committee meetings over the year, held during the school day. Meetings will be planned in advance for the year ahead and you would be required to attend most meetings, currently remotely but usually in school (sandwiches provided). In advance of the meetings, all governors read through documents that relate to the strategic direction of the school, bringing questions and suggestions to the meeting. You will also be encouraged to develop an area of expertise and conduct occasional school visits to explore this area.
While there is no formal need to interact with the children in the school, all governors are required to undergo a DBS check (at no cost to yourself).
Governor roles are assigned for a 4-year term - let us know if you are likely to commit for a shorter period than this.
We are particularly interested in a governor with financial expertise, but also welcome interest from candidates with any of the following skills/experience:
- Legal expertise
- Property/estate management
- HR expertise
- Change management
We are keen to improve the ethnic diversity of our governing body to better reflect the cultural mix of the school, so we would particularly welcome interest from any candidates whose ethnicity is not White British.
