Relate Mid Thames and Bucks (MTB) are looking for a Treasurer to join our board of trustees from November. Relate MTB offers relationship counselling including couple, family and young people counselling, sex therapy and mediation. Our highly trained counsellors work across Buckinghamshire and East Berkshire covering the following areas:
Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead
South Bucks District
High Wycombe District

About Relate MTB
Relate MTB is an independent, local charity part of the National Relate federation.

We are here for people of all ages and backgrounds, we work to reach out and extend our services beyond the barriers that many people may face.
We serve disadvantaged and vulnerable people within the community, providing a high quality, reliable and confidential service for people who are feeling isolated and vulnerable.
Relate Mid Thames and Buckinghamshire was established in 2000, when two local charities Relate Aylesbury and Relate Mid Thames merged. However Relate has a local presence as far back as 1949 when it was known as the Slough and District Marriage Guidance Council.

Relationship Counselling – not just for couples including LGBTQ+relationships, but family relationships as well, for instance a parent and child, grandparent and child
Couples counselling for depression through IAPT
Relationship counselling for people living with cancer

Is there a charge for Relate counselling?
People who can afford to, pay an hourly fee, depending on their household income. Our Bursary Funding Scheme is available to make up the difference between the cost of counselling and the amount people in need can afford to pay.
Last (financial) year 14% of counselling was part or fully funded by our Bursary Funding Scheme.
How is Relate MTB funded?
ALL OUR FUNDS HAVE TO BE RAISED BY US.
- We are a very small charity
- We rely on the dwindling number of grants from local authorities
- We apply to grant-making charitable trusts and organisations
Although we are members of the National Relate Federation (for governance purposes) WE DO NOT RECEIVE ANY MONEY from the federation or from the Government.
The Board needs a diverse range of Trustees bringing a wide range of skills and expertise to the Charity including but not limited to governance, HR, legal, financial, marketing, counselling, communications, education, business development and IT. We seek new recruits to add to the skills base and energy of the Board.
Relate Mid Thames and Buckinghamshire is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee and Trustees become a director of the limited company.
All Trustees of Relate MTB give their time voluntarily and receive no benefits from the Charity.
New Trustees receive induction on everything they need to know about Relate MTB and the wider Relate federation.
The role of the treasurer is to work closely with the Centre Director on all accounts and financial matters including budget, forecasting, auditing and preparing finance documents for the board, Relate and the charity commission.
The Board meets on a quarterly basis (Executive committee/ Trustee meetings including the annual AGM) to ensure compliance with the charitable objects in support of its beneficiaries. There may also be special strategic meetings during the year and Board Members may be asked to represent Relate Mid Thames and Buckinghamshire at Relate Regional Meetings, which take place twice a year. They may also be asked to represent Relate MTB at local functions and training opportunities.
The Chair’s period of office shall be two years renewable to a maximum of eight years. The maximum period on the Executive shall also be eight consecutive years for all other Trustees and Co-options.
