We are actively recruiting Non- Executive Directors/ Trustees to join the Board at Involve Kent. We are an innovative, creative and growing charity providing services to the NHS and local authorities. We now have more than 100 staff and support over 10,000 people in Kent through a wide range of programmes and services, all aimed at improving health and wellbeing with communities. We piloted ‘social prescribing’ in Kent on behalf of the Department of Health, which is now a mainstream part of the NHS, and we are transforming social care working collaboratively with Kent County Council and local community groups to provide new opportunities for older people.
The Board is responsible for our strategic direction and governance; ensuring we achieve our charitable objects and are well run. It is a demanding but highly rewarding role, one in which you will make a difference to the lives of thousands of people in Kent, and work alongside other exceptional people to ensure the charity remains the best in its field.
The role can fit around existing commitments, and the majority of our trustees are very busy professionals in a range of sectors. Equally, we welcome people who are retired or not working, who may have a little more time. Either way, we need people with highest levels of integrity and a drive for excellence, able to think strategically, to challenge and scrutinise, read, understand and interpret complex information, and to work collaboratively and inclusively. Ultimately, trustees take decision on critical issues including finances, staffing, service design, policies, new projects and contracts, managing serious issues and the future of the organisation, so you will need confidence to make a judgement and articulate your view.
At present we are particularly seeking the following expertise;
- Legal (such as a solicitor or barrister)
- Children’s health / social care services including safeguarding
- Community volunteering/ community leadership.
We are absolutely committed to equality, diversity and inclusion; it is part of our charitable mission and one of our core values. We are proactively seeking people from a range of backgrounds to bring a diversity of voice and challenge. We are particularly seeking people with lived experience of some of the issues we are tackling, including long term health conditions, disability, poverty, childhood adversity, a demanding caring role, disadvantage. We value this lived experience as highly as learned experience/ education.
The role requires regular attendance at Board meetings (6 times per year, held in Maidstone or virtually) and occasional committee / working group meetings, and input via email/ phone / video conferencing as required.
Under charity regulation, these roles must be unremunerated, though all expenses are covered.
