Non-executive director/ Trustee role
Could you be an Academy Ambassador in Tees Valley? Galileo Academy Trust, based in Redcar, seeks three non-executive directors/trustees to join its board.
The Academy Ambassadors Programme brings the expertise of the business world onto boards at multi-academy trusts (MATs) throughout the country to raise standards of education and improve the life chances of young people, which is critical to our social and economic success.
The opportunity
Galileo Academy Trust, comprising ten primary academies in the Redcar and Cleveland area, seeks to recruit three trustees with skills in HR, Private Sector Finance and Corporate Governance. With strong links to the Diocese of York through, the trust is committed to Church schools working in partnership with Community schools for the benefit of the localities they serve. Applicants of all faiths and of none are welcomed. Board meetings will be held virtually in the immediate future; on-site meetings will resume in due course at Vienna Court, Kirkleatham Business Park, Redcar.
The board seeks three business leaders with expertise in
- HR
- Private Sector Finance and
- Corporate Governance
As a key member of the board you will support the trust in achieving the following over the next 12 – 24 months:
Consolidation of the trust by working collaboratively across all schools in the trust;
Strengthening corporate governance from Members to Trustees and Trustees to the Local Governing Bodies to ensure School Improvement is at the heart of the trust;
Collaborative working both in the Tees Valley and beyond in order to share and benefit from expertise.
What’s involved?
Board governance in education is a strategic, ‘eyes on, hands off’ commitment which typically involves attending c. six board meetings per year/6-8 hours’ time per month.
You will be responsible for:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
- Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent
As an Academy Ambassador, you will join our Ambassadors alumni network which provides resources, guidance, networking events and webinars to support you in your role. All roles are pro bono.
