Home-Start offers befriending support along with practical and emotional advice in the homes of families who are having difficulties managing parenting for a variety of different reasons
We are a well established and respected local family support charity with a current vacancy for a Treasurer on our voluntary Board of Trustees. Trustees are encouraged from a wide range of backgrounds and experience.
What will you be doing?
The Trustee Treasurer provides oversight of the charity finances and funding, maintaining a good relationship with the Finance Manager who takes care of the regular financial management tasks, and provides steer for financial strategy and key decision making.
Board membership usually involves 6 meetings per year during school hours (currently on Tuesdays), with the Treasurer additionally attending Funding and Finance subcommittees every 2 months. Involvement in further subcommittees or on task groups may be requested from time to time.
All additional meetings are also held within school hours. Virtual attendance at meetings is possible as we now have the equipment to run concurrent virtual and live meetings.
What are we looking for?
The Treasurer role particularly benefits from some understanding of financial processes and assessment of financial risks. We are a small charity, with a budget around £200,000 annually, and own a property in Market Harborough which provides offices and activity rooms. An understanding of the nature of funding and fundraising in small charities would be beneficial.
All those with a interest in supporting local families through our charity's services are welcome. We are looking for people with a passion for helping others through this donation of their time and skills, who have sufficient availability and capacity to attend meetings regularly, and can present an accurate oversight of the charity finances to the Board of Trustees, supported by information provided by the Finance Manager.

We are a small, friendly bunch, and the role will give you valuable insight into how a small, local charity operates and how it managed its finances and funding needs. It will also allow you to see a full overview of all the work that we do, and see the measured impact that it makes - hearing the stories about the families we have helped, and reports on areas where we feel we could be helping more, if we had the resources to do so. It is highly rewarding to be part of the development of a key service in the Harborough District, learning about why and how our help works for families, and it will also provide you with the experience of leading an organisation at a strategic level.
Our Board meetings take place on Tuesdays currently (virtual/face-face), usuallybetween 12.30pm and 2.30pm to allow for school pick up commitments.
How to apply

A guest attendance at a Board meeting follows, with completion of a SkillsAudit form to give the Board a good idea of the skills/experience you are offering. Ifthe opportunity feels well-matched to both yourself and the Board at this point, thesafer recruitment practices will be followed which includes an enhanced DBS check(children and vulnerable adults) and two references. Trustee eligibility declaration isalso required.
